Overview

Milton CAT is seeking a detail‑oriented Pre‑Delivery Inspection (PDI) Technician to prepare new and used heavy equipment for customer delivery. This position is responsible for inspecting, configuring, and preparing a wide range of equipment—including paving equipment, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, and related attachments—to ensure all machines meet Milton CAT quality, safety, and manufacturer standards prior to delivery. The PDI Technician plays a key role in delivering equipment that is fully configured, properly assembled, and ready for immediate use by our customers.

 

Pay Rate: $28.50 - $37.89 an hour based on location and experience.  This is a union position

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre‑delivery inspections (PDI) on new and used heavy equipment, including paving and earthmoving equipment, to ensure machines are properly configured, functional, and delivery‑ready
  • Remove, assemble, disassemble, install, test, and adjust components, attachments, and accessories in accordance with manufacturer specifications and customer requirements
  • Inspect mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems to verify proper operation and identify deficiencies prior to delivery
  • Utilize logical troubleshooting methods to identify setup issues or installation errors and perform necessary corrections
  • Verify fluid levels (engine oil, hydraulic fluid, coolant, fuel, DEF) and ensure systems are properly filled and configured
  • Clean, prepare, and, where appropriate, recondition equipment to meet Milton CAT quality and presentation standards
  • Determine reusability of components in accordance with Caterpillar guidelines and company procedures
  • Coordinate or order required parts, ensuring accuracy and completeness of part selections
  • Prepare and complete inspection checklists, service reports, and appraisal or delivery documentation accurately and in a timely manner
  • Operate equipment safely to perform functional and operational checks prior to delivery
  • Support preparation and inspection of rental fleet equipment as assigned
  • Maintain awareness of advancements in tooling, equipment technology, and systems relevant to the role
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area while following all safety policies and procedures
  • Exhibit flexibility to work after hours or extended hours as needed to meet business or customer requirements
  • Perform related duties as assigned

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.

 

  • Associate’s degree in a related technical field or 1–3 years of hands‑on experience working with heavy equipment; experience with paving equipment preferred
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform equipment setup, inspections, and minor adjustments
  • Proficient in the use of computers and related software for inspection documentation and reporting
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills with strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while meeting quality and delivery expectations
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, dynamic service environment with shifting priorities
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency while consistently meeting or exceeding customer expectations
  • Ability to safely lift and carry 50 pounds or more
  • Maintain a personal tool inventory sufficient to perform assigned tasks
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including after‑hours work when required
