Overview

Parts and Service Sales Representatives play a key role in helping keep our customers’ equipment healthy and productive by selling Caterpillar parts, preventative maintenance, and repairs within a designated account. They develop and offer solutions that allow Caterpillar equipment owners to achieve the lowest operating costs possible and minimize machine downtime. This is an in-store based position.  Contact with these customers will be maintained over phone or e-mail.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, qualify and maintain contact with assigned customers to increase sales of parts and service solutions.
  • Provide customers with solutions to meet customer requirements after thoroughly analyzing needs.
  • Continually update the customer’s equipment population, contacts, mobile and office phone information, address and other customer relationship management information.
  • Promote all aspects of the dealership by selling parts, service, labor, Customer Support Agreements (CSAs), and generate engine and machine sales leads.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and be their primary point-of-contact at the dealership.
  • Advise customers on Equipment Management Solutions by understanding how customers use their equipment within their business, organize their equipment life cycles, and determine their maintenance intervals.
  • Build customer loyalty by following up on service or parts orders, assuring requests are addressed in a timely manner, and by networking within customer accounts.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required. 

  • 1 or more years’ experience with a heavy-duty dealership in a parts or service function required.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer and related Microsoft software, including Customer Relationship Management software (CRM).
  • Ability to understand the basic dynamics of equipment operation and design, and parts product applications.
  • Ability to organize, implement, and complete projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, engineering drawings, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and effective correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as averages, percentages, geometry, and statistics.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and be detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work after hours when needed to meet customer needs.
  • Attend training meetings, which may require overnight stays.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Working knowledge of Caterpillar products.
  • Previous experience in the construction industry.
  • Previous selling experience.
  • Prior territory management experience
