Overview

Milton CAT is seeking an experienced Powertrain (axles, transmissions, engines, final drives and torque convertors) Rebuild Technician to work in our climate controlled rebuild shop.  The Powertrain Rebuild Technician will be responsible for disassembling and assembling powertrain components for rebuild or repair. The successful candidate will have knowledge of internal and external parts of powertrain components and systems and be familiar with how they work and operate as well as having knowledge of proper testing procedures.

 

Pay Rate:  $35.77 - $44.29/hour based on location, education and experience. This is a union position.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair powertrain components on CAT and Non-CAT industrial and heavy equipment.
  • Evaluates parts to determine reusability and cause of failure.
  • Read micrometers and similar measuring devices.
  • Operate oxy/acetylene torches and have some welding experience.
  • Keep work area clean throughout day to ensure safe working environment.
  • Operate overhead cranes, power tools, and other shop equipment in a safe manner.
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • Attend scheduled training, department, and safety meetings.
  • Flexible to work after hours when needed to meet customer needs.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required.

  • High school diploma or (GED) equivalent.
  • 2-5 years of experience in the rebuild and testing of all powertrain components, both CAT and Non-CAT.
  • Knowledge of motor equipment technology, electronics, transmissions, and hydraulics.
  • Basic knowledge of safely operating heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical literature.
  • Proficient in the use of a computer and related software (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in shop environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, etc. May occasionally be required to work outside in various weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record and ability to obtain DOT medical card.
  • Maintain a tool inventory sufficient to perform assigned tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and be detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic, fast paced service environment.

Preferred Skills and Competencies

  • Associates Degree in Diesel Technology, or equivalent education and related experience.
  • Heavy equipment service/maintenance experience.
